Instructions for updating your Tempest x RepliCade machine
We have had some reports of certain Tempest machines experiencing lag. To address these concerns, as well as a short list of “Quality of life” annoyances, we have created a Firmware Update (FW). This article describes the fixes included in the update and how to install it.
Here is a brief list of the changes made in this update:
Input lag improvement
- The Simulated Inertia feature has been removed resulting in increased responsiveness (less lag) to spinner input
Quality of life improvements
- The screen shuts-off during charging when the machine is not turned on. Users will need to tap the power button to see the on-screen charging level.
- Start-up volume level now accurately reflects the volume dial’s position.
- Turning off the machine now requires the user to press and hold the Power button for 5 seconds to avoid accidental powering off during gameplay.
To perform the upgrade, you will need:
- A Windows-based PC running Windows 10 plugged into a power outlet.
- The updated Tempest Firmware downloaded to your PC
- The Actions Firmware Installation application downloaded and installed (application provided)
- The micro-USB cable that was included with your Tempest x RepliCade machine.
Do not use a USB cable with a ferrite (a ferrite is that little bump on some USB cables) - Please make sure your Windows 10 PC is plugged into a power outlet.
Step-by-step instructions
- Download the .zip file containing the Actions Firmware Installer application and the Tempest Firmware Update here!
Unzip the Actions .zip file and save the Actions folder to your desktop. Once you have it downloaded, open the Actions folder inside “Action Installer” and run “setup.exe”.
IMPORTANT: Do not remove any of the files inside the resulting folder. The folder contents will look like this:
- Power off the RepliCade machine and plug it into the Windows 10 PC (that is plugged into a power outlet) via the USB cable that we have provided.
- Launch the Actions Firmware Tool by selecting “Launch” application in the Actions folder.
The Actions menu should come up and the Status bar should say “Ready”.
NOTE: If you do not see the “Ready” indicator, unplug and re-plug in the USB cable connected to the RepliCade. If this still does not work, there may be a USB conflict with one of your other devices. If possible, unplug these other devices and see if this fixes the issue.
- Click the Refresh button and a dialog box will appear.
- Navigate to the desktop and click on the Tempest Firmware Update file downloaded previously.
- Click the “Open” button and then click the “Replace” button to confirm the selection and close the dialog box.
If you have done this correctly, the name of the firmware file will appear next to the Refresh button – it should look like this:
- After the new Firmware is selected, press the “DOWN” button to start the Firmware Update process.
- When the status bar turns blue and says “Successful”, the Tempest cabinet will automatically turn on and your Tempest cabinet has been successfully updated!
Please note once you have applied the update, your Tempest machine will power on and off slightly differently.
Updated instructions on how to power your Tempest x RepliCade ON/OFF:
- To turn ON: Hold POWER button for 5 seconds
- To turn OFF: Hold POWER button for 5 seconds
- Turn ON When Charging: Tap POWER button
- Turn OFF When Charging: Hold POWER button for 5 seconds
