This article describes how to update the Q*bert firmware on your Q*bert x RepliCade machine
Update fixes:
- Applies pixel smoothing to on-screen artwork to better match the original.
- Re-orients the scan-lines setting from horizontal to vertical direction.
PLEASE NOTE: There are two versions of the NEW Q*bert firmware.
- Q*bert Warren Davis Edition x RepliCade
- Fixes above issues
- Boots up in "Farder Haster More Challenging Q*Bert" - Q*bert x RepliCade Regular Edition
- Fixes above issues
- Boots up in "Q*Bert" original arcade game
You may install EITHER firmware on your machine regardless of which one you own. The only difference between the two is which game launches on start up. Note that BOTH games are included in both ROMs.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
In order to install this FW update, you will need the following:
- A PC or MAC computer with a USB port
- 1 x USB Flash Drive
- The zip file of the new Q*bert firmware
DOWNLOAD the Q*bert WARREN DAVIS x REPLICADE FW HERE
DOWNLOAD the Q*bert x REPLICADE FW HERE
Steps:
- Format the USB flash drive as MS-DOS
- Download the Q*bert FW zip file
- Extract the zip file, and copy the RETROUPDATE folder to the USB flash drive
- Make sure replicade is turned off, and plugged in to power source.
- Insert the USB flash drive into the top USB external controller jack, on the rear of the cabinet.
- Turn on the replicade, and the screen should now say "PREPARE TO UPDATE"
- Screen will now say "UPDATING - Please do not remove USB drive and power."
- Wait until the screen indicates "SYSTEM UPDATED PLEASE REMOVE THE USB FLASH DRIVE" and remove the USB flash drive from the device (before it reboots in five seconds).
- Re-boot the Q*bert replicade.
- The new Q*bert firmware has now been installed. ENJOY!
